AS THE HOMEWARD JOURNEY OF AN ILLUSTROUS UI ALUMNUS, RT. HON. OLUSEGUN ADESINA ADEYEMO BEGINS

The rite of passage of Late Rt. Hon. Olusegun Adeyemo, a distinguished alumnus of the University of Ibadan began with a Service of Songs which was held at Oke-Ado Baptist Church, Ibadan on Wednesday, 02 May 2018. At the event, tributes and encomiums were poured on the Late Rt. Hon. Adeyemo, who was until his death, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly. He was described as a complete gentleman, loyal, honest, humble, God fearing and dedicated, as well as a man who lived an exemplary lifestyle. He was also described as a philanthropist and an erudite lawyer. During his tenure as the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adeyemo was said to have distinguished himself as a great, humble and diplomatic leader who was all embracing and expedited action on the Passage of Bills to laws, especially those which affected the welfare and well being of the people of Oyo State. He was also described by colleagues as someone who exhibited boldness, courage and tact, with which he resisted internal and external intimidation in the course of carrying out his duty. In his sermon, entitled: “Living a life of Positive impact” the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Samson Supo Ayokunle described the death of Hon. Adeyemo as a great loss to both the State and the Church of God. Comparing Hon. Adeyemo to Josiah in the Bible, he stated that though he lived a short life, it was impactful with legacies left behind. He urged others to draw closer to God, stressing that God is the one that can make one live an impactful life. The well attended occasion had dignitaries in attendance, not only from Oyo State, but neighboring states as well. Among these are the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and his wife, Chief (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, His Ondo State counterpart, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Otunba Alake Adeyemo among other political leaders. The state judiciary was led by, the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Muktar Abimbola while the Nigerian Bar Association (Oyo State Branch was led by its Chairman, Mr. Akeem Agbaje. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka was at the head of the delegation from the University which includes, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. A.A. Aderinto, Registrar Mrs. Olubunmi O. Faluyi, Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. E.O. Olapade-Olaopa, Dean of Students, Prof. A.T.P. Ajuwape, Director UAC, Mr. A.A. Adeosun, Director, Directorate of Public Communication, Mr. O.O. Oladejo among others. Hon. Adeyemo who died at the Age of 47 is survived by a wife and wonderful children. He has since been buried in his home town of Lanlate.
