Born in Nigeria, Prof. Oyesiku attended the University of Ibadan, Ibadan from where he obtained an MB.BS degree in Medicine in 1979. After his first degree, he proceeded to the University of London as a Commonwealth scholar to obtain a Master of Science degree, following which he was admitted for the Neuroscience graduate program at Emory University, Atlanta, from where he obtained a Ph.D.

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of a seasoned Economist from the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan, Dr. Musibau Adetunji Babatunde, as his Chief Economic Adviser.

The Governor, in a statement endorsed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, confirmed that Babatunde’s appointment takes immediate effect. Governor Makinde, who had announced a four-point developmental agenda for Oyo State, had named the expansion of the state’s economy as one the key pillars.

The Oyo State Governor elect, Engr. Abiodun Oluwaseyi Makinde has donated the sum of N25 million to the University of Ibadan towards the rehabilitation of facilities affected by recent rainstorm in the University of Ibadan during the recent heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in the city of Ibadan.

The N25 million cheque was presented during a courtesy call by Engr. Seyi Makinde to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, FAS, on Friday 15 March, 2019.

Engr. Makinde stated that his was a “Thank you” visit for the immense support he enjoyed from the University Community, and to appreciate the credible role UI staff played in the conduct of the recent elections in Oyo State.

The University College Ibadan (UCI) opened on 18 January 1948 with a total of 104 students distributed into three Faculties, namely Arts, Science and Medicine. The temporary take-off site was an old site previously used by the 56th Military General Hospital at Eleyele, about eight kilometres away from the present site.

In February 1948, the University of London allowed Ibadan its special relationship scheme. The formal opening of the College took place on 25 March 1948. Arthur Creech Jones, then British Secretary of State for the Colonies, turned the first sod at the permanent site of the University College, on 17 November 1948, which became the University's Foundation Day.

The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan has appointed Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka as the 12th Vice Chancellor with effect from 01 December, 2015. He succeeds Professor Isaac Folorunso Adewole whose tenure as VC ends as of that date.

Announcing the appointment at a well attended and historical press conference in the Senate Chamber of the institution on Wednesday, 9 September, the pro chancellor and chairman of council, Dr. Umar Musa Mustapha said the new VC, a world-class geologist, is the first person from the Faculty of Science and the Department of Geology to be appointed as VC since the University was established in 1948.

The Management, staff and students of the University of Ibadan deeply regret to announce the death of the foremost diplomat and outstanding alumnus of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye. Prof Adefuye was until his death, the Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America, a position which he assumed in March 2010.

He was 68 at death.
