UI DISTANCE LEARNING CENTRE ADVANCES AS VICE CHANCELLOR TURNS SOD FOR ITS NEW ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING

The joy in the air was quite palpable as the University of Ibadan (UI) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, FAS, turned the sod for the new Administrative Building of the UI Distance Learning Centre recently. The new Administrative building, which is to be located at the Distance Learning Centre (DLC) Computer Based Testing (CBT) Centre, Ajibode Axis of the University was a very welcomed idea among the management, staff and students of DLC, as it would ease off their burden of going all the way to Moniya, Idiose where the current Head Office of the Centre is located on a daily basis, for official activities. Speaking at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor stated that this new development was long overdue and would ease off the inconvenience, burden and cost of having the centre’s administrative office far away. He expressed delight that the problem was finally being addressed for a centre which has grown to become the most accepted Open distance education in Nigerian in its 30 years of existence. He assured all that the building will be completed and ready for use within a period of 9 months, to the delight of all. The Director of the DLC, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu, in his remark deeply appreciated the UI management for considering the Administrative building for the DLC, stating that it will not only help facilitate administrative activities in the centre but also enhance teaching exercise. He disclosed that the CBT Centre would henceforth be referred to as the Permanent site and headquarters of the UI DLC centre. The Deputy Registrar, DLC, Mrs. Francisca Ayodele on her part, appreciated all those who turned up at the memorable event and all those who contributed towards making it happen it happen, acknowledging the magnanimity of the UI management. She also sought for more cooperation towards the speedy completion of the project. Also present at the occasion were the DVC (Administration) Prof. Kayode Adebowale; DVC (academic) Prof. Adebola Ekanola; Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi O. Faluyi, Former DVC (Academic), Prof. A.A. Aderinto, Director University Advancement Centre, Mr. A.A. Adeosun, Director, Directorate of Public Communication, Mr. O.M. Oladejo. Others include the Deputy Director, DLC (Administration), Prof. David Okurame, Deputy Director (Academic) DLC, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, Prof. Remi Raji-Oyelade and Deputy Registrar/Secretary, DLC, Mrs. Francisca Ayodele, Deans of faculties and staff of UI DLC among other dignitaries.
